Office in Tajikistan organised workshop on combating illicit cultural property trade

Summary

From 11 to 15 July the Office organized a workshop in Dushanbe which focused on “Combating illicit trade of cultural property and smuggling of historical artefacts”. The 23 participants were representatives of the Border Troops, Customs Service, State Committee of National Security (SCNS) and the Ministry of Culture. During the workshop, experts from the TNT/Border Unit, INTERPOL, the United States Department of Homeland Security, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the Greek National Police’s Department against smuggling of antiquities, the UNESCO Office in Afghanistan and the Afghan Customs Service shared best practises with the participants. In particular, they shared their experiences on cross-border co-operation in identifying trafficking of cultural property cases and financial investigations into the smuggling of historical artefacts.
