Summary

On 20 January, the Bazar-Korgon Advisor Team delivered a lecture on early marriages and bride kidnapping to 67 students in the host village, where they were joined by a Juvenile Delinquency Inspector (JDI) who supported the lectures by offering personal support and encouragement to the youth present.

The JDI informed the attentive audience on the laws related to early marriage, bride kidnapping and other pertinent human rights issues which they should be aware of as it affects their age group.

The audience was assured by the JDI that any related concern they wanted to raise on the topics discussed would be dealt with in a confidential manner and with the utmost sensitivity – a key point to reassure the audience on as the majority of the women are from small, rural communities where bride kidnapping occurs with great frequency.

The lecture also included the screening of a documentary film about bride kidnapping.
