OSCE Office in Tajikistan hosted public communication forum on the role of youth in countering extremism leading to terrorism (VERLT)

Summary

From 17 to 19 May, the OSCE Office in Tajikistan facilitated a workshop on the role of youth in the prevention of VERLT. The event gathered 46 participants, representing students, youth workers, the Office of General Prosecutor, the State Committee of National Security, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, civil society sector and journalists.

The event aimed at strengthening their capacity to resist violent extremist propaganda in social platforms, to improve critical thinking and provide information on the methods of designing counter-narratives in response to VERLT. The representative of the Office of General Prosecutor presented the National Strategy on the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, and highlighted the role of youth in state-led efforts to counter this phenomenon. The workshop concluded with a series of recommendations, which will be shared by all interested stakeholders.
