From 4 to 6 December in Ashgabat, the Centre organized a joint Turkmen-Afghan workshop on fighting cross-border crime and countering drugs and psychoactive substances. During the event, three international experts from Lithuania and Italy on combating drug trafficking delivered presentations on various topics, including the latest developments and trends in the market and drug use in Europe; joint operations by the Guardia di Finanza to intercept and prevent international drug trafficking in Italy; and joint operations aimed at combating international drug trafficking at land and air border crossing points. Also, participants were acquainted with the Border Management in Central Asia – Phase 9 (BOMCA 9) and the Central Asia Drug Action Programme (CADAP 6), and their achievements.
The workshop brought together 19 border officials (one woman, 18 men) from Turkmenistan and border police officials from Afghanistan. The Afghan delegation was headed by a senior female diplomat from Afghanistan’s MFA in charge of co-operation with the OSCE and NATO.
