From 19 to 23 November, the Joint Turkmen-Afghan Workshop on inter-agency co-operation in border security and management was organized within the framework of the OSCE Extra Budgetary Project “Strengthening Border Service Capacities in Turkmenistan (Phase II)”. The third in a series of events brought together government officials from state border service units of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to develop capacities and exchanges best practices. 11 Afghan border police officers (all men) came from Kabul and provinces of Afghanistan. The Turkmen delegation consisted of border guards from the State Border Service of Turkmenistan. The workshop featured discussions on various aspects of border management and security, inter alia, on combating drug trafficking and use of electronic devices in border patrolling, which were presented by international (UN) and national experts (Belarus, Finland and Hungary).
