Summary

This lesson will review some basic points of interviewing, the results of which will be applied to further case management. Since you learned about the Interviewing skills in your basic training course, some objectives of this lesson will refresh your knowledge. Cases of domestic violence require very careful application of interviewing skills and their complexity requires close attention of the officers.

 At the end of this lesson, the students will be able to:

  1. Outline and briefly explain the five (4) key elements involved in planning and preparing for an interview as taught in class.
  2. Identify the steps that should be considered when opening the interview according to the objective.
  3. Outline the procedure to follow while conducting the interview as stated in the lesson.
  4. Identify the means by which the interview should be properly ended according to the lesson.
  5. Identify the considerations regarding Interviewing the Witnesses
  6. List at least seven consideration regarding the Interviewing the Suspect
  7. Explain the process of Interviewing the Victim.
  8. Explain the effects of strangulation and head injuries on the interview
  9. Explain the Helpful Behaviours When Talking to a Victim of Domestic Violence.
  10. List and Explain the Unhelpful Behaviours When Talking to a Victim of Domestic Violence.
