Summary

One of the most important tasks when dealing with the issue of domestic violence is to bring the offender to justice, and by doing so prevent the domestic violence continuing. One of the things that you will frequently be called upon to do as part of your investigations is to make arrests. This lesson sets out to remind you about your powers of arrest, specifically in relation to domestic violence, but also to deal with mandatory arrests under United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) Reg 2003/12.

The purpose of this lesson is to revise the law on arrests under the Kosovo procedural code, and to introduce the students to the concept of mandatory arrests under Article 14.2 of UNMIK regulation 2003/12.

By the end of this lesson students will be able to:

  1. List the general grounds of arrest under the Kosovo Procedural Code.
  2. Explain the meaning of mandatory arrest under article 14.2.
