Summary

Police officers, as authorised officials of the MOI, in accordance with the Law on registration of residence and sojourn are legally obliged to be familiar with, to respect and enforce the citizens’ rights derived from this law.

The goal of the Law on registration of residence and sojourn is to regulate the legal obligations of each individual regarding the registration and withdrawal of both residence and sojourn. This law provides concrete rights and obligations of every citizen regarding the choice of residence or sojourn.

The goal of this lesson is to provide participants with knowledge in order to be able to determine and distinguish residence and sojourn of citizens, and in accordance with the obligations derived from the Law on internal affairs to successfully enforce this law.

At the end of this lesson the participants will be able to:

  1. define the term residence;
  2. define the term sojourn;
  3. understand citizens’ obligations when changing residence and sojourn;
  4. identify the authorized body where the citizens can do registration and withdrawal of the residence and sojourn as well as report any change of both residence and sojourn;
  5. get familiar with the competences of the MoI.
