Lesson 3: Basic management skills — Delegation

The goal of this lesson is to provide Police Inspectorate staff with an introduction to the theory and practice of delegation of tasks in management and the need for this skill within PIK.

When you have completed this Lesson you will be able to:

1. describe what delegation is, and what it is not
2. list the benefits of delegation for you, as a manager, and for the members of your team
3. identify which tasks are most suitable for delegation and which are less so
4. explain the difference between delegation and abdication of responsibility.
5. describe the ‘Eight-step plan for successful delegation’
6. effectively delegate appropriate work.
