Summary

The goal of this lesson is to provide Police Inspectorate staff with an introduction to the law that regulates police powers to arrest persons and detain them. This is a critical area of learning for Inspectorate officers, since it directly relates to the Protocol on the Management of Detention.

At the end of this lesson Inspectorate staff will be able to:

  1. State the grounds for arrest under article 210 of the PCPC
  2. List the rights of a person at the time of his or arrest
  3. Describe the grounds in law for the police power to detain
  4. Demonstrate the ability to recall the more important points of knowledge from the lesson
