Summary

Its worth to mention here that terminology for this type of terrorism has always been confusing. There are several terms in use by law enforcement forces, academics, etc. Most common ones are as following:

  • Islamist Terrorism
  • Islamist/Judaist, etc. Radicalism
  • Religious extremism/radicalism
  • Religiously Motivated Terrorism

Recently, it’s clearer to most people from different religions or beliefs that none of the religions are motivating any kind of terrorism in origin and also ban and penalize killing humanity and terrorising any value as well. But unfortunately, the verses of holy books can still be misinterpreted or misused for exploitation.

The term “Islamist Terror” is also used as propaganda material by radical organisations by claiming that “Non-Muslims are calling Muslims as terrorists”.

For that reason, we prefer to use the term “Violent Extremism and Radicalism that lead to Terrorism (VERLT)” or “Terrorism Abusing Religion (TAR)” in accordance with OSCE PC and MC decisions.

The goal of this lesson is to provide the participants with a brief information and understanding of the Turkish Hezbollah, Hizb-ut Tahrir and Islamic Jihad Union organizations as a part of “Terrorism Abusing Religion”

At the conclusion of this lesson, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand terminology of “Terrorism Abusing Religion (TAR)”
  2. Understand modus operandi of the Turkish Hezbollah, Hizb-ut Tahrir and Islamic Jihad Union organizations as a part of “Terrorism Abusing Religion”
