Summary

The goal of this lesson is to provide Police Inspectorate staff with an introduction to the law that applies to the arrest and detention of minors. This important area of the law seeks to recognise this group as vulnerable persons in the justice system. It will involve considering both the PCPC and the Juvenile Justice Code (JJC).

At the end of this lesson Inspectorate staff will be able to:

  1. State the legal provisions that apply to the arrest of a minor
  2. Identify the legal provisions that empower a KPS officer to arrest a minor
  3. Describe the special rights of detained minors
  4. Demonstrate the ability to recall the more important points of knowledge from the lesson
