Summary

The goal of this lesson is to provide participants with a basic understanding of the role of criminal information collection analysis and dissemination and its purpose in democratic policing. They will be focused on the reasons for and the process of gathering information and how to make use of it particularly in organised crime and trafficking of human beings.

At the conclusion of this lesson, participants will be able to:

  1. Define the term criminal intelligence
  2. Identify at least five (5) targets of information gathering as relates to human trafficking
  3. List at least five (5) principles police officers must consider when collecting information
  4. List the six (6) step process for gathering criminal information
  5. List at least five (5) sources of legal criminal information
  6. List at least three (3) benefits for the police in making use of criminal information
