Lesson #GP11: Gender Issues

Description

Material for a 3-hour lesson, part of the 20-week Basic Training Course, developed by the Kosovo Police Service School.

Summary

Gender affects all aspects of life and is constantly changing. What we regarded as gender specific 30 years ago, might be regarded as old-fashioned today. How the legislators look upon gender will affect the practitioners, various professions and how they look upon gender and interpret the legislation will affect the individual – and vice versa. It is equality important to work with gender issues on all levels of society. Today we contribute to what our children and their children will regard as gender specific tomorrow.

The goal of this lesson is to increase the student’s sensitivity to gender-specific issues and to allow for the development of strategies to ensure discrimination based on gender is not perpetuated.

At the conclusion of this lesson, students will be able to:

  1. Define the term “Gender Equality” according to the lesson.
  2. List the three (3) means by which the KPS officer can ensure gender equality within the police service as described in the lesson.
  3. Outline the policies the KPS has in place to address the negative issues women face working in the police service as taught in the class.
