Summary

This is a joint public safety agency workshop intended for an audience composed of police, customs, fire and corrections senior officers. The session is driven by the PowerPoint presentation which contains all of the tasks. There is enormous scope within this workshop for trainer flexibility and innovation. Management principles of all descriptions such as team-building, decision making and so on can be introduced as, and when, the opportunity or need arises.

The goal of the lesson is to create an awareness in participants of the role of strategic level management in a major incident situation.

At the conclusion of the lesson, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the principles of first response to a major incident;
  • Describe the 3 levels of management;
  • Appreciate the need for risk analysis;
  • Experience and explain the function of strategic management in a joint agency response;
  • Make a personal action plan for return to their organisation.
