Summary

Planning is a function that is used everyday by managers, supervisors, and their subordinates. Plans give the direction needed for activities of the organization. Planning is especially important to those making decisions because decisions are based on goals and plans. Understanding the goal and the plan augments the abilities of the decision-maker.

The goal of this lesson is to provide the participants with information on the planning aspect of management. This includes coverage of its concepts, principles, and applications.

In this lesson, we will be looking at planning as an isolated concept, as well as its integration with other management functions. At the conclusion of the lesson, participants will get practice in developing a plan from predetermined goals.

At the end of this training session the participants will be able to:

  1. Provide definition and discuss the importance of planning as a management function.
  2. Outline the levels of planning.
  3. List at least three (3) principles of planning.
  4. Name the 4 components of a plan.
  5. Describe the steps of the planning process.
