Mission to Serbia builds police capacities in preventing violent extremism

Summary

As part of its efforts to assist Serbia in identifying and preventing violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism (VERLT), on 12-13 March in Novi Sad, 15-16 March in Niš, and 22-23 March in Novi Pazar, the Mission, together with the Ministry of Interior (MoI), organized three pilot training courses on preventing VERLT.

Six trainers, who had gone through the series of Mission-supported capacity-building events including the train-the-trainers course during 2017, shared their extensive knowledge and experience with 45 local police officers from the uniformed police and the local sections for countering terrorism and extremism. The training materials, including presentations, videos and pictures, were developed and prepared by the trainers themselves. Following the conclusion of the training courses in April, the MoI and the Mission intend to expand these training courses to also include schools, social services, and health providers.
