Summary

In order to assist Serbia in strengthening trust between citizens and the police, on 14-17 May, in Zlatibor, the Mission, together with the Ministry of Interior (MoI), organized two communication skills training courses for uniformed police officers at operational and supervisory levels.

More than 50 police officers from Valjevo, Čačak, Užice, Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Novi Pazar and Prijepolje learned about the advantage of adopting a preventive approach to policing, pursued for example by meeting and interacting with citizens during events such as public debates, visits to schools, visits of community groups to police stations, or public information campaigns.

These events completed a series of five communication training events which included a total of 133 police officers, 11 of whom were women. In the upcoming period, the Mission will discuss future modalities for implementing the community policing concept across its structures with the MoI.
