Mission to Serbia supported police in increasing public communication skills

Summary

With the aim of assisting Serbia in building professional police competencies and increasing the overall trust of citizens in the police, the Mission, in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior (MoI), organized three two-day trainings to improve the communication skills of some 80 uniformed police officers at operational and supervisory levels. Police officers from central Serbia and Belgrade learned how to create opportunities for meetings with citizens through public debates, visits to schools, visits of community groups to police stations, and public information campaigns, thus fostering a preventive approach. The Mission and the MoI plan to organize the fifth training event in November, and to continue these efforts in 2018.
