Mission to Skopje organised a second roundtable discussion for National Contingency Plan on Migration

Summary

On 16 May, the Mission organized the second roundtable discussion on “Recommendations for an Overarching National Contingency Plan on Migration” aimed at assisting the national authorities to better co-ordinate so as to effectively handle any potential future migration crisis.

MoIA State Secretary, Magdalena Nestorovska, addressed the attendees at the opening session and praised the role of the Mission in assisting the Ministry in developing policies on border security and migration management. An expert from the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) presented guidance on contingency planning on reception of migrants, and an Italian expert presented a model of how to manage the migration crisis.

With support by the Mission, participants will continue to work on a concrete Contingency Plan to include recommendations from a total of four roundtables, expected to be finalized by autumn 2018.
