Centre in Ashgabat organised an advanced patrol leadership course

Summary

From 11 to 30 July, the Centre organised an Advanced Patrol Leadership course for 17 officers from the State Border Service of Turkmenistan. The training was conducted at the Baharden Border Guards Training Centre in south-western Turkmenistan. Two international experts introduced participants to the types and forms of border patrols, including reconnaissance and tracking patrol, border patrol routine and techniques, as well as information collection and terrain analysis. The training course also addressed troop leading procedures and squad movement techniques. The practical components of the training course included field exercises on inspection of vehicle, people, and personal belongings, hostage rescue tactics, land navigation and desert survival techniques. A graduate of the previous Advanced Patrol Leadership course, held in Imamnazar (near the Afghan border) last year, participated in the training to share his knowledge with the newcomers and upgrade his instructor skills. This course is one of the pillars of an OSCE extra-budgetary project on strengthening border guard capacities in Turkmenistan launched in 2014.
