Programme Office in Astana co-organised training seminar on profiling techniques for border guards

Summary

From 13 to 17 June in Kazygurt, South Kazakhstan Region, the Office, in co-operation with the U.S. Embassy, organised the second in a series of five five-day training seminars on profiling techniques for some 20 officers from the Border Service of the National Security Committee. National experts presented an overview of the security situation in Central Asia with a focus on countering illicit drug trafficking and using psychological techniques for identification of the potential criminals during the border crossing verification process. Topics also included psychological profiling, the identification elements of risk profiles and the use of different risk indicators. A practical exercise was conducted at the Kazygurt border crossing point near the border with Uzbekistan.
