Summary

From 12 to 14 June the Mission in Kosovo supported the Local Public Safety Committee of Gjilan/Gnjilane Municipality in facilitating the third Youth Camp for Better Future in the framework of its joint project with the Norwegian Embassy to support community safety initiatives.

The event aimed to promote co-operation between different ethnic groups and to enhance communication between the Committee, Kosovo Police and other actors working in community safety.

As a result of this three day multi-ethnic youth camp, 50 participants comprising secondary and high school students from Albanian and Kosovo Roma communities, members of the respective Committee and officers of the police station attended training sessions on negotiation and advocacy delivered by the Mission in Kosovo and its trained Committee members. In addition, the Station Commander of Gjilan/Gnjilane delivered a presentation on the importance of community safety forums to the participants, who also took part in the role plays and various recreational activities and were provided with promotional materials from KFOR.
