Summary

Aiming to strengthen the regional co-operation of the Association of Kosovo Police Women, as well as to assist the law enforcement structures of Montenegro, the Mission in co-ordination with the OSCE Mission to Montenegro organised a roundtable to promote positive gender mainstreaming practices in the security sector. During the event, held on 8 September in Podgorica, senior women police members of the Association of Kosovo Police Women shared their experiences with the gender equality representatives of several government institutions of Montenegro. Highlighting how gender diversity can increase the effectiveness and responsiveness to promote peace and security, discussions were centred around women empowerment in the security sector, with a focus on management and decision making positions, building of the police women associations, and awareness raising on women representation within police ranks. Additionally, new forms of co-operation and joint regional initiatives related to gender equality within law enforcement structures were discussed between the two OSCE missions.
