Description

This project, organized by the OSCE Office in Yerevan in co-operation with the Dutch Police, was a follow-up to the study tour of Armenian Police officers to the Netherlands earlier in 2012 and addressed security problems in schools that include drugs and smoking, road safety, and cases of violence.

Summary

As a follow-up of the Armenian delegation’s April study trip to the Netherlands, on June 18-21, Mr. Nico van Ooik, the Dutch police counterpart, visited Yerevan to help conduct the necessary preparatory activities for the Safe School projects in Arabkir and Mashtots district of Yerevan to be organized within the framework of community policing launched in Armenia on June 1, 2012. During the mentioned period he worked with his Armenian colleagues and had meetings with the police commanders in the designated districts.

The implementation phase of the Safe School project took place on October 8-11, 2012. Mr. Nico van Ooik arrived in Yerevan to guide and support his Armenian colleagues. Besides, to make the most of Mr. van Ooik's visit, it was decided to organize meetings at four newly established community policing outreach stations in Arabkir, Mashtots, Kanaker-Zeytun and Malatia Districts of Yerevan so that Mr. van Ooik could present the Dutch experience of Community Policing, express his views of the developments and challenges of the current stage Armenian Community Policing as well as respond to the officers' questions.
