Twenty-six officers of the Kosovo Police Special Operation Units received training on media communication in cases of crisis and big events delivered by the Mission to Kosovo from 17 to 23 December. The training provided the participants with insight on the role of media during crisis, media phases of a crisis and crisis management, the organizational setup and strategic crisis communication with the media, as well as with general knowledge on how to co-operate with the media.
This interactive training involved many practical exercises and case studies, which assisted the participants to advance their knowledge and recognize communication shortfalls in times of crisis and big events, which is essential to increase the transparency and credibility of the institution and a crucial element to maintain public calm and confidence in police. Additionally, the officers were also trained to operate with camera in order to take footage during an unrest, which would be used for self-evaluation and for identifying the wrongdoers. Also, due to its importance and sensitivity, the legal framework covering crisis management and media relation also formed an important part of the training.
