On 26 and 27 November in Sarajevo, the Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), in co-operation with the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH MoS), organised a roundtable on procedures, roles and responsibilities related to addressing online content that incites violence.
The roundtable gathered 50 participants from the BiH MoS and relevant police bodies in BiH, the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Communications Regulatory Agency of BiH, Press Council in BiH, internet service providers (ISPs), telecommunications and online media companies, and organizations working on media-related issues. Participants agreed on a set of common goals and recommendations relating to the necessary policy decisions and practical steps to be taken in BiH in order to more adequately address the misuse of the internet for incitement of violent extremism and terrorism.
The recommendations will be used as a basis for other Mission activities on countering violent extremism. The roundtable was organized as part of the ExB project Support to Dialogue on Prevention of Violent Extremism in Bosnia and Herzegovina, funded by the United States Department of State Bureau of Counterterrorism.
