The OSCE Mission to Skopje organised a regional conference between 12-14 June in Ohrid, as a follow-up to the conference organised in 2010, to encourage accountable, transparent internal oversight mechanisms of the Police for fight against corruption in a transparent and democratic manner.
As a continuation of similar project implemented in 2010, this conference foresaw the organisation of a Second Regional Conference of the Units for Internal Control for 47 participants to debate on “Methodology for proving corruption and cooperation of the internal control services in the region for prevention of corruption”. The discussions focussed on practical approaches the Units for Internal Control from different countries are using for fight against corruption in the Police.
The program included three main subjects:
In the first part of the conference, the heads or high officials of Sector for Internal Control from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia and Turkey discussed case studies and best practices for investigation and evidencing of corruption crimes. The discussion was followed by two presentations on the use of evidences provided on the territory of a foreign country delivered by the Host Country’s Public Prosecutor and an expert from the Ministry of Justice.
The second part of the conference was devoted to establishment of close regional cooperation in fighting against corruption, establishing mechanisms for regular exchange of information between the countries in the region and identification of common problems related to anti-corruption.
