Office in Astana co-organized training seminar on countering transnational organized crime

Summary

From 30 March to 3 April in Almaty, the Office in Astana co-organized with the United States Embassy in Kazakhstan and the State Revenues Committee a five-day training seminar on countering transnational organized crime and trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors.

Some 30 customs officers from Almaty and Almaty Region learnt best practices from national and international experts from Georgia, Lithuania and the United States of America in identifying and closing international channels of illicit drugs and their precursors as well as in using controlled deliveries and psychological techniques to identify drug traffickers. Interactive exercises simulated real-life situations that customs officers might encounter in their everyday work.
