Online workshop “New challenges in investigation and prosecution of sexual abuse of children on the Internet”

Description

This online event allowed participants to discuss the current trends in production and dissemination of child abuse material and existing legislative framework. A brochure reflecting conclusions of the workshop was produced by the SPMU.

Summary

This online workshop was a follow up to the seminar “Improving law enforcement’s response to combat sexual exploitation of children on the Internet organised by the SPMU on 20-21 September 2007 and online workshop “Countering the sexual exploitation of children on the Internet” organised on 13 - 24 October 2008. Recommendations presented at the end of these activities included, inter alia: the necessity of co-operation between different stakeholders at national and international levels, the need for capacity building and specialised training to investigate this crime and the benefits of standardized legislation regulating the crime.

The online workshop “New challenges in investigation and prosecution of sexual abuse of children on the Internet” focused on discussing the following three main sub-topics:

  • national and international legislation and mutual legal assistance;
  • social networks on the Internet and grooming, and
  • commercial and non-commercial production/self-production of child abuse material.

Participation in this online workshop was limited to invited participants only.
