Summary

From 27 to 29 July in Aktau, western Kazakhstan, the Office in Astana co-organized with the State Revenues Committee of the Finance Ministry and the United States Embassy in Kazakhstan the third training seminar on countering transnational organized crime and trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors. Some 30 law enforcement officers from Azerbaijan, China, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan learned from national and international experts from Georgia, the USA and the Central Asian Regional Information and Co-ordination Centre for Combating Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors about best practices in countering transnational organized crime, identifying and closing international channels of illicit drugs and the drug precursor trade, as well as in using controlled deliveries and psychological techniques to identify drug traffickers. Other topics included the identification of concealment methods used for drug trafficking and synthetic drugs.
