Summary

According to data on hate incidents/crimes in BiH collected by the Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina via officially available records, 185 hate incidents/crimes occurred from August 2013 to August 2014. Judicial responses to these incidents from authorities, however, continue to be inadequate.

It was also determined that initial police documentation of these incidents has been insufficient. In response, the Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina organized a hate crimes training for in-service police officers from the FBiH and Brčko District on 25 and 26 September in co-operation with the FBiH Police Academy.

The event gathered 33 police inspectors/investigators from criminal investigation departments without prior hate crimes training. The training was the first of this kind organized by the Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina and served as a test run for future hate crimes training in co-operation with both entity police academies.

Further police training would complement ongoing Mission training for judges and prosecutors and advance accountability for hate-motivated crimes.
