Programme Office in Astana helped strengthened capacity in countering illegal drugs

Summary

From 5 to 7 March in Almaty, the Programme Office in Astana in co-operation with the EU-UNDP Border Management Programme in Central Asia and the U.S. Embassy organized a three-day training seminar on drug-crime detection and prosecution, with a focus on controlled delivery and purchase.

Some 20 participants from law enforcement agencies involved in combating and preventing the sale of illegal drugs, including customs and police officers, representatives from the Prosecutor General’s Office, Interior Ministry’s Police Academy and the Central Asian Regional Information and Co-ordination Centre for combating illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, learned about best practices in the investigation of drug crimes and prosecuting them.

Law enforcement experts from Georgia and Lithuania shared their countries’ experience in controlled delivery and purchase activities. A practical exercise aimed to enhance participants’ skills in investigative activities they implement in the field.
