The aim of the Conference was to share the lessons learned, define concrete measures to increase the exchange of operational information and enhance the level of co-operation between the participating countries.
The Third Regional Conference on Combating Organised Crime, titled "Money Laundering, Assets Seizure and Assets Forfeiture in Relation to Drug Trafficking" took place in Belgrade on 24 and 25 May. The Conference was organised by the OSCE Mission to Serbia and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia.
The Conference is a continuation of the efforts to enhance regional cooperation in order to combat organised crime and in accordance with the Conclusions agreed at the Regional Conference “Mechanisms for Suppression and Prevention of International Illicit Trading in Precursors and Synthetic Drugs” in Belgrade on 21-22 June 2005.
Conference's regional character was reflected in participation of two delegates from each of the following countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia, and representatives of UNMIK.
The objectives of the Conference were to, by presenting a case studies, share lessons learned in implementation of the asset seizure law in drug related cases in the course of investigation and court proceedings and to define concrete measures to increase the exchange of operational information and to enhance the level of co-operation in the fight against organised crime, as well as to possibly initiate positive changes in participating countries.
