On 11 April, the Mission delivered a media relation training module to 20 participants of the Kosovo Police, Customs, Correctional Service and Emergency Management Agency; attending the mid-management training course at the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety. This tailored media training for public safety institutions involved issues related to the role of media in covering the work and achievements of the public safety sector, as well as its role in keeping the public informed with an aim to create and maintain a positive image and build a strong relationship with them. The training also conveyed the purpose of media relation, which is not only to share information, but also to increase the knowledge of the public about security issues and to raise awareness, change attitudes and mobilize the community. On this note, different media communication formats were presented for use with different audiences, and the participants practiced in a number of on-job specific scenarios. Finally, the presentation of each participant was recorded by a professional cameraman and used to evaluate the body language and mimics, as boosting components when conveying security and public safety messages.
