Summary

From 4 to 6 June, the Presence in Albania, in partnership with the State Police and the Municipality of Korça, organized "Days against Domestic Violence", a series of events to raise public awareness on domestic violence and to encourage closer co-operation among relevant state structures. Similar events will be held in other cities of the country, and are supported by the Swedish Support for Community Policing and the Gender Alliance for Development Centre.

As part of the campaign, the Presence in Albania supported a discussion between parliamentarians and high-school students in Korça to discuss social action to prevent and fight domestic violence. Parliamentarians and students alike identified awareness-raising, stakeholders’ co-operation, women’s financial empowerment, legal improvements and positive discrimination (such as gender quotas) as means to efficiently fight domestic violence.
