On 26 and 27 February, the Presence in Albania facilitated meetings in Podgorica to negotiate the Protocol between the Ministries of Internal Affairs of Albania and Montenegro on the establishment of the shared border crossing point at Grabon – Zatrijebaçka Cijevna.
A representative of the EU’s police assistance mission to Albania also participated in the meetings, during which the representatives of the two countries harmonized the text of the Protocol in the two respective official languages, while the Presence in Albania assisted with the translation into English. On 27 February the delegations visited the location where the border crossing point will be built. The road infrastructure on the Montenegrin side is almost finished, while the Albanian authorities will have to complete their part to enable the linkage.
At the next meeting, the representatives of the two delegations will initial every page of the Protocol in the three languages, prior to final signature. This new border crossing point will help to shorten the distance by approximately 70 km for the inhabitants of the Plava area in Montenegro and will contribute to free movement of people and goods.
