Summary

The main objectives of the meeting were to provide an overview with descriptions of the various training courses available in this area and to demonstrate the latest techniques in combating this crime. The meeting also sought to promote enhanced co-operation between the government and private sectors.

The event brought together over 76 national and international experts from 27 countries. International experts delivered presentations on recent case studies as an example of good investigation practice. Representatives from the private and academic sectors discussed the possibilities of building effective partnerships with the criminal justice sector.

Some of the recommendations of the meeting included the following: 

  • The Criminal Justice sector is encouraged to work with internet service providers and the private sector in developing reasonable data retention requirements.
  • Law enforcement should encourage cybercrime prevention programs.
  • Consideration should be given to developing a cybercrime strategy for the OSCE region.
  • The law enforcement community should take advantage of the academically accredited cybercrime investigation training offered through Europol.
  • Law enforcement agencies should take advantage of the training and technical assistance that is offered by the private sector.
