Description

This report, produced by the SPMU, contains summaries of all sessions and conclusions of the regional workshop that took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on 20-21 November 2008.

Summary

This workshop was organised by the Strategic Police Matters Unit in co-operation with the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan.

More than 90 counter narcotics law enforcement experts from Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and international and regional organisations convened to explore the ways to improve cross-border co-operation at national and regional levels among the main stakeholders tasked to combat drugs in the Central Asia region.

Discussions were focused on identifying better ways of  sharing information and intelligence-based products, the roles of law enforcement agencies in the criminal process and prosecution, as well as the roles of police and public partnerships in the prevention of drug trafficking.
