Summary

On 29 and 30 January the Mission to Serbia continued the series of discussions between the police and prosecution to improve cooperation within the framework of the new Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) for two groups of officers from Subotica and Sombor police districts.

In each of the groups, participants comprised 25 criminal investigators from the respective police district and up to 10 basic and higher district prosecutors. The debate focused on communication modalities, data leakage during criminal proceedings, and modalities of reporting on the collection of evidence.

These two districts are the second to last amongst Serbia’s 27 police districts to take part in this Mission-led initiative since mid-June 2014. Final roundtables with Belgrade district police are scheduled for February 2015, followed by recommendations to improve the efficiency of investigations in line with the identified needs.
