From 5 to 8 April the Mission facilitated three operational meetings of Kosovo Agency for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety with similar agencies in Skopje, Tirana, and Podgorica. Topics addressed during the meetings related to procedures for the implementation of laws and by-laws, licensing procedures for the users of radioactive sources, border control of the movement of radioactive and nuclear material, management of radioactive waste, and the ratification of agreements and conventions. The adoption of a memorandum of understanding between the agencies was also discussed. These events aim at enhancing the capacities of local institutions in reducing the risk of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear terrorist threats in the region.
