Summary

On 22 and 23 September, the Mission in Kosovo in co-operation with the Association of Kosovo Police Women organized a regional conference on Integration of Gender Perspective in Security Sector in Prishtinë/Priština. The purpose of the conference was to strengthen the role and position of women in the public safety sector at the regional level and enhance the co-operation through the exchange of experiences. During the conference, participants covered issues ranging from the democratization of the security sector and the importance of women involvement, to the necessity of creating affirmative policies for prevention or elimination of discriminating acts, and the co-operation with international organizations. The police and the OSCE missions’ representatives from Tirana, Podgorica and Skopje, as well as the Head of the European Network of Policewomen, the Head of the Force International Ltd., and board members of the Association of Kosovo Police Women attended the event, where they emphasised the need for continuous co-operation and membership in international organizations. The conference concluded with recommendations focusing on improved co-operation in order to work together in identified areas and exchange best practices in promoting women’s role and gender equality in the public safety sector.
