Summary

Reports are used as a way to record and present the results of some work.

Reports provided to management on the performance of the department, what we refer to as management reports, are essential managerial tools. They allow you, the manager or supervisor, to stay informed about all aspects of the business or department.

The purpose of this lesson is to help the participants acquire good reporting skills.

At the conclusion of the lesson, the participants will be able to:

  1. State the purpose of management reports;
  2. Recognize the hierarchy of reporting;
  3. Outline the characteristics of useful reports;
  4. Introduce a practical format for reports;
  5. Identify the four general types of reports;
  6. Describe the five steps in writing a report.
