Summary

On 6 March, in Novi Pazar, south-western Serbia, the Mission organized a roundtable on the role of the City’s Safety Council and local self-government in preventing violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism (VERLT). The purpose of this activity was to assist the Novi Pazar local authorities and its Safety Council in co-ordinating all projects and activities related to preventing this phenomenon. Discussions focused on expanding the number of local stakeholders involved in these activities and ensuring effective co-ordination of all future projects. Some 15 participants, including the representatives of local CSOs, the youth office and local authorities concluded that the Safety Council and the municipality should facilitate co-ordination activities of different actors dealing with the prevention of VERLT. This activity is part of the Mission’s efforts to support the prevention of violent extremism in Serbia and encourage active participation of all relevant local stakeholders in addressing this matter.
