Summary

On 15 March the Mission organised a workshop on preventing violent extremism and terrorism in Nis, south-eastern Serbia for members of the Nis Safety Council, local officials, police, judiciary, school councils and CSOs. The purpose of the workshop was to familiarize local actors with the phenomenon of violent extremism and terrorism and to highlight the importance of a coordinated and comprehensive approach in addressing the issue. Some 30 participants had an opportunity to learn the best practices of other European countries in dealing with the issue and to engage in a discussion on the importance of preventing VERLT. This activity is part of the Mission’s broader efforts to establish close partnerships between local self-governments, civil society representatives and other relevant stakeholders in addressing local safety needs and co-operating in preventing violent extremism.
