Summary

Between 29-31 May 2017, the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat organised a practical course for border agencies "Making Examinations and Detections - Persons, Cargoes and Vehicles” at the International Customs Terminal in Ashgabat. This was the first of three separate practical training courses, which brought together 18 officers from the State Customs Service, the State Border Service and the Ministry of Interior, based in the capital and the regions (velayats).

The agenda of the training course featured up-to-date methods of interdicting drugs and chemical, biological and radiological substances, case studies of cross-border crime and discussions on common challenges to open and secure borders. The officials also took part in practical exercises simulating examinations of personal effects as well as of commercial trucks and personal vehicles.
