On 7 April the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina supported the regional conference titled "Shaping Our Common Future: Common Values and Fundamental rights, Challenges Posed by Extremism and Terrorism".
The OSCE Head of Mission delivered the opening remarks for a section titled Concerns and Expectations of Young People, which also featured contributions from the Mission’s Youth Advisory Group (YAG). Participants at the conference highlighted the importance of preventative activities, enhancing inter-agency co-ordination and regional co-operation in tackling violent extremism and mitigating the threat of terrorism. Furthermore, the role of religious leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in providing effective opposition to extremist interpretations was articulated.
The event, which was attended by representatives of 13 countries from the EU and the region, EUROPOL, youth and non-governmental organisations, was organised by the BiH Ministry of Security in conjunction with the Austrian Ministry of Interior and the Austrian Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs. The Mission will continue to support local partners at all levels of authority in BiH in pursuing a comprehensive, “whole of society” approach to preventing and countering violent extremism and reducing the threat posed by terrorism.
