Summary

From 8 to 12 May the OSCE Mission to Serbia, together with the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs' Criminal Investigations Directorate organised four one-day awareness-raising seminars on the use of virtual money in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac and Nis for police officers and prosecutors. The purpose of the seminars was to illustrate how cybercriminals use legitimate financial resources, such as Bitcoins, to commit crimes, launder money and sell narcotics using overlay networks (darknet). A total of eighty police investigators and forty prosecutors participated in the seminars. This activity is part of the Mission’s assistance to the police and prosecutors to enhance their capacities to investigate and prosecute economic crimes and corruption.
