On 20 June, the OSCE Mission to Serbia, together with the civil society organization (CSO) "Public Policy Research Center", organised a conference on local security and the role of members of parliament (MPs) for municipal representatives, CSOs and MPs. The purpose of the conference was to strengthen co-operation between the authorities and the civil sector in identifying major human security issues affecting local communities. Some 30 participants took part in the event. This conference concluded the Mission’s project that included field research on key security issues in Subotica, Kraljevo and Novi Pazar, hometowns of national MPs sitting on the parliamentary committees overseeing the security sector and human rights. This activity is part of the Mission’s wider efforts to ensure that elected representatives exercise oversight over the executive authorities at all levels.
