Summary

On 30 March, the Programme Office in Bishkek supported the Kyrgyz Association of Women in Security Sector in organising a one-day international conference on “The role of women from security sector in sustainable development of regions” in Bishkek. The conference brought together members of parliament, representatives of the Presidential Administration, government, law enforcement agencies, public and local councils, civil society and media, in order to discuss women’s participation in sustainable development, their promotion to managerial positions in security sector, as well as to learn about international best practices and experiences.

About 100 participants, mainly from Kyrgyzstan, but also from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, took part in the discussions. The conference resulted in adopting a resolution which was submitted to the government. The event was organised in the framework of the Assistance to the Kyrgyz Republic’s Law Enforcement Agencies’ reform project.
